Values tell you so much about a person. One of my top values is self-compassion. I believe that self-compassion is the key to a satisfying life.

My belief comes from my own experiences. Several years ago, I was overwhelmed and exhausted trying to be everything to everybody, my family, work, and business. I felt guilty when my mind wandered from the immediate needs of a family member.

My apologies did not ease the guilty feelings.

When I didn’t get the outcomes I desired in business, I felt frustrated and like a failure.

It was clear that I needed to re-examine my priorities. With that in mind, I returned to my practice of mindfulness with self-compassion. Self-compassion is treating ourselves the way we would treat others who are suffering, failing or who feel inadequate.

You’ve heard me talk about mindfulness, paying attention in a particular way to the present moment on purpose and without judgment.

You might wonder about self-compassion. Compassion means to sympathize or to feel the pain of another. In practice, it is a wish or impulse to alleviate the suffering of another. In essence, when we experience difficulties, we embrace ourselves with care and concern.

Using self-compassion, I reclaimed my life vision and reacquainted myself with experiences that I value.
Now I consistently feel rested, relaxed, and refreshed.

Since then, I made a commitment to help other “super” women like me do the same.
