Eleven Great Reasons to Make Sleep a Priority

I especially like the first one. The Health.com article 11 Surprising Health Benefits of Sleep by Alyssa Sparacino gives us a slideshow of benefits that you might not have considered. I loved reading that sleep helps to improve memory. Every night before I go to sleep, I complete two foreign language lessons. The lessons are set up so that I have to speak, read and interpret. The lessons help me to relax and I enjoy them. I had no idea that going to sleep and sleeping restfully shortly after the lessons improved my ability to recall the language.

The article continues by showing that sleep contributes to longevity, lower inflammation, and increased ability to maintain a healthy weight. The following is a quote from the article.

“Researchers at the University of Chicago found that dieters who were well rested lost more fat – 56% of their weight loss – than those who were sleep deprived, who lost more muscle mass. (They shed similar amounts of total weight regardless of sleep.)”

A restful night’s sleep will keep you healthy and it will also improve your quality of life. These are great reasons to make sleep a priority. The “R” in the R.E.S.T. System of Stress Relief stands for re-assessing your priorities. Consider making sleep one of your priorities.
