She tasted Papa Bear’s porridge and it was too hot. She tasted Mama Bear’s porridge and it was too cold. She tasted Baby Bear’s porridge and it was just right.

Goldilocks eventually made her way into the bears’ bedrooms. She tried Papa Bear’s bed; it was too hard. She tried Mama Bear’s bed and it was too soft. She finally tried Baby Bear’s bed and it was just right. Goldilocks fell asleep and did not awaken until the Bear family was home looking not so friendly at her.

Just right.

Just right conditions improve your ability to fall asleep in 30 minutes of less and to sleep peacefully through the night. If you wake up, you fall back asleep in a short time. Right conditions will also cause you to wake up renewed, rejuvenated and refreshed.

For many women, peaceful sleep does not come easily without just the right conditions. This one reason we developed our sleep in 30 recommendations. These recommendations are based on research and personal experience. It starts with establishing a bedtime routine. We also recommend that you take the time to assess the temperature that suits your sleeping needs.

Studies show that lower body temperatures promote sleep. The optimal temperature for restful sleep is 65 degrees Fahrenheit to 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Take into account the flow of air in your bedroom when setting the thermostat. The weight and density of the fabric you wear and that of your bed covers will affect your body temperature. The amount of heat generated by your sleep partner will also affect your body temperature. This includes dogs or cats that find their way onto your bed at night.

Take a moment to think about the conditions in your bedroom last night. How did the temperature feel? Was it too hot, too cold or just right? Now think about a night when you slept soundly and woke up rested and refreshed. What was different? Is it possible to replicate these conditions in your bedroom?
