Slow Your Roll and Take Your Time to Stress Relief

You know how it feels when you are overwhelmed with stress. You are on edge; if someone looks at you the wrong way, it will set you off. You are clumsy; dropping your keys, dropping raw eggs, or dropping makeup. You are tired because you either cannot fall asleep or your sleep is interrupted. You feel as if you are juggling a million balls and you have no time for anything else.

Stress is helpful. It can motivate us to action. It can also cause us to perform at a high level of competency. When stress becomes overwhelming, however, we experience a decline in performance. It negatively affects us emotionally, mentally and physically.

Overwhelming stress affects our ability to think clearly, process information and accurately recall facts. If you have ever been involved in a major accident or event, the shock may have caused your mind to go blank. Your desire to act quickly may have been hampered by an inability to think. You may not have remembered what to do. You may have had difficulty completing actions that would have been easy under normal circumstances. You may have had trouble remembering the chain of events.

When we are overwhelmed with stress, we are in survival mode. Energy is diverted from the part of the brain that controls thinking to the part of the brain that prepares the body to fight or run like heck. There is no time to think. If we were cave people, fighting saber toothed tigers, that type of response would be vital.

We are no longer fighting saber toothed tigers. We are dealing with emotional, mental and physical stress. The body still reacts the way it did thousands of years ago. We are constantly prepared to fight or run and thinking is placed on hold.

We are talking about R.E.S.T System of Stress Relief. I developed this system in response to my desire to be happy.

R – re-establish your priorities.
E – enlist help or support.
S – sleep.
T – take your time.

Deliberately take your time; slows things down. The keys may remain in your hands, the egg in its shell and the makeup off your clothes. Taking your time allows you to make thoughtful, informed decisions. It prevents rushed decisions and mistakes. It also allows us to take care to prevent injury.

We are going to talk about the components of this system and how each can benefit you in your quest to be happy. In the meantime, check out a couple of offers that will help you get started.
