Working Moms Need REST – Kick the S** Out of Stress

Overwhelming stress is personal for those of us who are working women, wives, mothers, or adult daughters of aging parents. I know because this is my world and I was on edge the entire month of April.

I work a full-time job, I have a part-time job and manage a private practice. My husband and I do most things together including making sure he takes care of himself. Our oldest daughter graduates from high school and we have waited expectantly for college acceptance letters, financial aid packages, and her final decision. Did I mention that both daughters have had sports injuries this year? To add to my stress, my 80 year old mother has decided to sell her home. She lives in a different state. I have spent one weekend a month helping her home so that she can place it on the market and move to our town.

I know what I am talking about when I talk about when I refer to overwhelming stress. I am sure you can relate. Today I decided to kick the “S” out of stress.

I developed an acronym by removing the extra letters “S” from the word stress and rearranging the remaining letters. The acronym is R.E.S.T. In order to kick the “S” out of stress it is vital that we R.E.S.T. The letters stand for the following:

R – Re-establish your priorities.
E – Enlist help or support.
S – Sleep.
T – Take your time.

In the upcoming posts, I will talk about each statement in detail. I hope you will join me in the discussion. I want to hear about some of the things that stress you out. I also want to hear how I can best help you get through the overwhelming stress you feel.
